Dell is extremely popular for general use computers and monitors, but falls a bit short in terms of displays for games. Dell has negotiated a relationship with Alienware, in an attempt to get in on the game market, but Alienware provides great gaming computers, not gaming monitors.
This 20.1–inch Dell monitor is perfect for general use and provides convenient USB ports, but its reported response time of 16ms is not the fastest we have seen. For example, the Samsung reports a lightening response time of 5ms.
This Dell has excellent connectivity ability. It has digital and analog ability as well as S–Video and audio inputs and four USB 2.0 ports. So potentially, this monitor can connect to peripherals as well as display video. This monitor is not Mac compatible.
The dot pitch is a tight .255 mm, which is competitive, but its contrast ratio is only 800:1, which is fine for nearly every application, except high–end multimedia work and games. This monitor has the ability to display sharp clarity but does not have the ability to display the color depth of other monitors, whose ratio is over 1000:1. However, the brightness of this monitor is perfect and it has a broad viewing angle, both horizontal and vertical.
This Dell monitor, although not the best for gaming, includes some nice extras like picture–in–picture and pivot ability.
Through the front panel, you can change source, turn on or off and access the menu. Through the menu, brightness, contrast, color, sharpness, position, transparency, source, setting and Picture–in–Picture settings can be adjusted.
This monitor can be adjusted by tilt, swivel, height or pivot.
Online Dell posts an entire user manual, FAQs and other information. Additionally, you can contact them by telephone, email or instant chat. Unfortunately, we have had few good experiences dealing with Dells customer support, we tried their chat service and did not receive answers to our questions and Dell will only provide monitor support if your PC is a Dell. On the positive side, Dell provides a 5–year warranty, which is longer than most.
We cannot say that this is a bad monitor, it is a good general use monitor with many extra useful functions, a high–level of connectivity and if you have a Dell PC, it has a long term warranty; however, it is just not fast enough for gamers.
